We present our group speech to the princiapal.
Collin: First hour we were situated with the first graders! All of them were very excited and very loud! We helped them practice their greetings with a short song. Then we quizzed them on animal names and sounds in both English and Japanese. We went through the song again and played Rock, Paper, Scissors against them! There was lots of celebration, facepalming, and sorrow on the battlefield.
Jet: we played a game called the slap game. We didn't get slap people but we slapped cards. Here's how it works: First we spread out all the cards with all the Japanese letters on them. Then there is a recorded message speaking a sentence. We then have to slap the card that has the starting letter of the sentence.
The next class was music class. We sang ashitagaaru, a song we know as a class. We also played rhythms using bells and different kinds of hitting sticks.

Ada: In Home Education, we cut out and sewed some felt onigiri (riceballs). I learned some convenient sewing techniques from a series of short videos that the students accessed via QR codes in their textbooks using their laptops. I was very impressed by the technology and capabilities of the students, who were 5th graders! My tablemates were very helpful and shared their materials with me so I could create my onigiri. We talked quite a bit, although sometimes we didn't understand eachother. It was my favorite class of the day.
