Day 12: Part 1 Kyomizu Temple and Fushimi Inari- We made it to the top!

This morning we traveled to Kyoto to visit the Kiyomizu shrine.

The name comes from its very clean, purifying water that is said to allow you to live longer if you drink it.

We had to walk up a lot of stairs to get to the shrine, but we could see a lot of Kyoto from the top

Some people drank the water, and some others bought omamori, which are small good luck charms. Some other people did omikuji, which has you pick a stick out of a box and read your fortune. Alex got really good luck and is supposed to be very successful in life. After that we went to some stores selling Kyoto-themed merchandise and traditional Japanese fans.
Lunch time at Nakau Restaurant

Alex:When we went to Fushimi Inari Taisha, which is a shrine with framed gates. The shrine is spread out across Mt. Inari with a trail looping around the top.

Mt. Inari with a trail looping around the top. There are thousands of the traditional gates on the mountain, following the trail to the top. We had an hour of free time here to shop, sight see, and experience the shrine, but Jet, Gage, Evan, and I had other plans. We made it our goal to make it to the top of the mountain, and we did! In 30 minutes, we rushed to the top of the mountain which was 223 meters tall (731ft), got fortunes, took pictures, and started running back down. We were very exausd right after, but it was okay.

We got some Kitsune items from the gift shop to commemorate our achievement. Kitsune is the Japanese word for Fox, and it's the symbol of the shrine.
