Day 12 Part 2 Meditation at Manpukuj and Kyoto night

at Manfukuji Temple

a
Today we practiced mediation with a buddhist monk.

We were instructed to cross our legs as best as we could, sit up straight, form a circle with our hands, and focus on a point on the ground.

The mediation is meant to focus on yourself and your personal wellbeing. If you felt as though you were unfocused during the mediation, you could request for the monk to hit you on the back with a stick to refocus your thoughts. This action is moreso an act of encouragement than it is punishment.
I found the mediation very refreshing after being surrounded by the hustle and bustle of the big cities. It was a great reminder to be mindful of your own needs and to take a break every once in a while.
