Day 11: Kyoto, Kinkakuji, Kiyomizu-dera, Mt. Inari

[Student's experiences getting to Kyoto Station]

Damaris:
I arrived at Kyoto Station around 8:50 because my host parents were really nice and drove Cassandra and me. After arriving we had to wait for the rest of the group so it was a pretty relaxing morning for me.

Cassandra: I don’t really have anything to add

Payton/Chenoa:
Our morning was really crazy. We got dropped off at the neighborhood station at 7:30 and we had to rush because we were late but we accidentally left Isabel behind. When we got on the second train it stopped 2 times, for 40 minutes each time. We didn’t have the map so we were kind of lost, but we partly remembered most of the way.

Isabel:
I met Fynn and Clay at Osaka station, and we took the train together to Kyoto. Unfortunately, because of the earthquake, the train kept stopping because there was a problem with the tracks, so our ride was delayed for an hour and a half. Even so, I’m glad we made it safely.

Clay/Finn:
Our morning was pretty good even if we had a 1 hour delay. Our host family gave us presents like onigiri, senbei and toy cars.

Jocelyn/Luna:
We started our day really early at like 6 and got on the train. We were good in the beginning but then when we got off at the next station we got on the wrong train, so we had to figure out how to get back to the second station. When we finally got on the right one it was a rapid train so we were expecting it to go fast but we ended up having an hour delay.

Patience:
I woke up and went to the station but freaked out because I didn’t know where I was going. I got on the wrong platform but I was eventually able to get to the right station.

Calvin: I went to the station by bus, it went smoothly.

(Journal from Damaris:)

Today we met at Kyoto station on our own, and went to Kinkakuji temple, Kiyomizu temple and Fushimi Inari shrine. We took so many cool pictures and had a good time looking at the view.

Kiyomizu-dera (Love temple, love stones)

We got to see the love stones and the Kyoto tower (in the distance).

With Middle-school students on their class trip!

At the Inari shrine a few of us went almost all the way to the top. The climb was worth the view!

Then around 6:30 we had free time near our hotel so we all went our separate way. With me (Damaris) was Isabel and Jocelyn. We ate ramen and walked around. We went to a skywalk and from there we can see the city lights and the Kyoto tower, it was really pretty.

It was a long and tiring day but we all had fun and made it to our final destination in the end so that was good!

  1. You guys did good even with a couple mix-ups. That view looks fabulous! So many thanks to the host families. They're so very thoughtful and generous. I am extremely appreciative for all they've done.
