Day 12: Kyoto, Nara, Todaiji, Deer, Free Time, Rain

Today’s journal from Chenoa:

Today we decided to return to Nara to catch up on the places we missed on Monday. Today we went to the Todaiji Temple and met with the deer. Farther into the temple was the daibutsu or the big Buddha statue.

We went to the hole which is said to be the size of the Buddha’s nostril. We crawled through the hole which is meant to be good luck.

After that we split up to meet with the deer again. The deer were very cute and tried to try to eat anything you had. We fed the deer crackers and left.

Afterwards, we went back to the bus station and ate tonkatsu (pork cutlet) set at a restaurant.

After lunch our plan was to go to a temple to meditate. When we went to the train station we learned that there was problems with the tracks because of the rain and the earthquake. Because of this we were unable to take our scheduled JR train, and had to go to Kintetsu train line to get back to Kyoto.

Once we got back to Kyoto station at 3 pm, we split up. Calvin went to Yodobashai and got food at the grocery store. Isabel and Jocelyn and Damaris went to the Kyoto station and continued to explore the station down stairs. Patience went to the mall with Cassie and went to the Book-off store and bought some things. Cassie was a little confused in the big station and got lost, but thankfully she found her way! Fynn and Clay and Luna went to a department store and bought some stuff and explored and mostly relaxed. They bought food from the grocery store. Payton and I went to the mall and explored almost all of the floors. We then went to the grocery store to buy food.

We met back up at our hotel at 5 pm to gather our things and headed to Kyoto station to leave for Hiroshima on bullet train again.

We arrived at Hiroshima at about 7:40. We went to the Hana Hostel at 8 and found our rooms to sleep for the next two nights.

  1. Wow! Those deer are like the goats at the zoo, or the pigeons in Venice. Very cool :D
