Day 7 Meiji Shrine, Harajuku, Shibuya

Diane's entry:

Today we went to Meiji shrine--there we saw a wall of sake barrels, and threw coins to pray to the gods. There was also an area covered with ema, prayers written on wooden panels. The shrine was for the most part, however, under renovation.

After, we took the train to Harajuku, a shopping district in Tokyo. We saw more extreme Japanese fashion there, such as Lolita clothing, and also more common popular styles like seifuku (school uniform).

From there we went to Shibuya, another district of Tokyo. Sensei helped Zach, Hannah, Ryan, and Dayne make hanko, traditional Japanese name stamps, and we were able to try Japanese fast foods like donburi. We had two hours free time to shop as well in Shibuya.

Shibuya is most famous for its area in front of the station,
where all traffic stops so pedestrians can swarm across the crosswalks.
It is quite a sight, and we were part of it today!

From there we returned to the youth hostel to get our checked bags, and took them with us starting from the train ride to Yokohama. We walked to the station up and down stairs with these packs (thirty pounds each about).

We met our host families next at Hakuyo high school, where the faculty and students gave us a welcome presentation. Starting from there we went home with our Yokohama families.

High School principal gave the welcome speech!

The two girls did a great job for welcome ceremony for us
